They may not be new to everyone but they’re certainly new to me! Here’s five new places I tried this July.
As the name might suggest this cafe-come-cocktail bar has recently opened inside the tempest building on Tithebarn Street and is the new venture from the people behind Ma Boyles (not too far down the road). It’s a cool building and they’ve managed to wrangle a street-side drinks terrace to open alongside their rooftop space. The menu is pretty small but good for breakfast and would make an excellent work space if you need somewhere chill to hang out for a few hours.
Technically, whilst I have eaten food from Fritto before (their DIY pizza kits kept me going through the first lockdown), this month saw the opening of their first ever bricks-and-mortar takeaway at the top of Smithdown Road. Owner Luca has been working his arse off to get everything ready and is now serving his famous panzerotti (read: deep fried calzone) along with loads of other good stuff: fries, pizza and chocolate covered doughnuts.
Bubba’s Trap Kitchens
I’m pretty certain this is a Manchester borne business but theyve got a new set up serving up their famous Bubba boxes right outta the Baltic Market. It’s a one stop shop for comfort food with their signature box filled with chicken wings, spicy prawns, half a lobster, curly fries and two, iced Belgian waffles. Death row dinner vibes or what?
Kassap is one of those places that is just known for being a great place for dinner. Masters of all things meaty- they’re famous for their steaks but the rest of their menu is just as good. With a new lunch menu on offer, they’re now showing off a wider range of their Turkish roots in their dishes- kebabs, fresh fish, salad and my fave, the feta-stuffed Borek. Come for the great food, stay for the fabulous service.
With a view as good as theirs overlooking The Three Graces it’d be easy for 30 James Street to rest on their laurels when it comes to their food offering but thankfully, it manages lives up to expectations, Not cheap, I’ll admit, but for a fancy pants lunch in the sunshine? Absolutely.
