Just Wings

I'll admit I was a little sceptical when I was asked to review the new Just Wings restaurant on Aigburth Road. Having no prior knowledge of the name,  I had of course pre-preemptively googled them and found out that it was a takeaway, existing already in three locations- Crosby, Southport and St Helens.  Now as much as your gal here loves a take-away, I just wasn't sure how I'd go about a full review.

What I didn't realise is that they're actually an independent, family run business that have expanded on their existing takeaway offering by opening up their first fully-fledged restaurant right in the heart of Aigburth Road.

The restaurant itself is big, spacious, pleasingly spotless (it's only three weeks old!), has a bar with beer on draught, a free pool table and a massive telly on the wall, should you fancy watching the end of the World Cup whilst you eat (we did).

Not only that but the owners have partnered up with Brooklyn Brewery who sponsor the 'Wall of Flame' wings challenge and have sorted beer pairing options for each of the 14 different flavours of wings available-clever!

We could only manage three different flavours on this occasion, sweet teriyaki, classic buffalo and, of course, salt and pepper all of which were every bit as good as you'd expect from a restaurant named in their honour. On the flavour line up you can also pick from the likes of Jamaican Jerk, Raging Cajun and Garlic Parmesan.

I also munched my way through a simple but tasty chicken burger, 2 different flavours of fries (garlic and red salt- both good), duck spring rolls, spicy breaded prawns (delish) and a whole big vat of strawberry milkshake.

Okay so I might have been slightly hungover.
Whilst the menu offering won't knock your socks off in terms of originality, what they do offer is really good takeaway food done well. With the casual dining vibe of the restaurant I think they've really hit the nail on the head for a place you can go with your mates, watch the match, play some pool and eat some wings. Plus the staff are so lovely they even gave me a slice of Oreo cheesecake to take home with me and really, what more could you ask for?
